JUKEBOX THE GHOST Let Live & Let Ghosts (Rebel) CONSIDERING the band's jaunty, piano-led college rock, it's no surprise they spent much of 2009 on tour with Ben Folds. There are times when you'd think you were listening to the North Carolinian key-basher himself. Of course, if you like Folds, that's no bad thing, but why bother when you could put Whatever & Ever Amen on again? While the trio lack Folds' witty lyricism, there's plenty of energy and, on songs such as Victoria and Lighting Myself On Fire, a real sense of drama. It will take more than that to lift them out of the shadow of their influences, however. JD GOLDFRAPP Headfirst (Mute) THEY'VE done soundscape, they've done dance. They've done glam rock, and they've done flower power.
