IT was believed that the days when top-flight footballers worked for a living after hanging up their boots had long gone. But not so in Yorkshire as Premiership title winner and former Wolves midfielder Mark Atkins now spends his days plastering walls in God's own county, having joined the family business after quitting professional soccer last summer.

Atkins, who won the title with Blackburn in 1995 before spending four years at Wolves following a pounds 1 million move from Ewood Park, always planned to take up the trade. But it is a far cry from the glamorous lifestyle still enjoyed by some of his multimillionaire contemporaries.
