PAUL Heffernan, so often the hero for County in their recent revival, turned villain as they missed the chance to topple the Second Division leaders.

The young Irishman had scored six times in the previous three matches and looked set to stretch his amazing sequence after 68 minutes when Peter Gilbert was adjudged to have handled a long throw by onloan David Pipe inside the area. But Heffernan's tamely hit spot-kick against stand-in keeper Luke McCormick was saved and County were on course for their first goalless draw in 66 matches.
