A MIDLAND soldier killed in a road accident in Iraq had only been on duty in the Gulf for just over a week, the Ministry of Defence revealed last night.

Trooper Carl Joseph Smith, 23, from Kettering, Northants, was killed on Thursday night while on operations in Abu Al Khasib on the outskirts of Basra.
