Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery Industrialist and all-round whizz Matthew Boulton's bicentenary is celebrated in Selling What All The World Desires, a new exhibition at BM& AG. There is plenty more besides, however; the museum's permanent collection of antiquities, fine art, coins, medals etc is complemented by the world's finest collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings. Until October there are also exhibitions focusing on Edward Burne-Jones and JRR Tolkien in photographs. Best of all, it's all free.

Dudley Zoo & Castle has been one of the region's major attractions for decades, with an amazing gathering of animals.
