DEVOTED charity worker Dorothy Perkins (left) missed out on an MBE - through modesty. Dorothy, 87, spent a lifetime helping others but initially turned down an award because she felt there were others more deserving. When she was convinced that an MBE would also honour the societies for which she had worked, she changed her mind and was in line to be honoured last Friday. But, in the meantime, Dorothy died - and the honours system does not allow awards to be made posthumously.
